How Black Deficit Entered the British Academy
Robbie Shilliam

Review

This article analyses how racism suffused itself in Higher Education and it traces this history from the development of scientific racism, slavery to decolonisation movements and universities today. The concept of deficit is explained and problematised through this process, ultimately questioning why this has never been investigated publically. Academic staff may find this useful when re-conceptualising what the ethnic minority student experience in the UK truly means and entails.
