This book’s long standing presence positions it an essential read for academic staff. It advocates the dismissal of the ‘banking’ concept of education and for students to be considered in all aspects of curriculum design, where they are considered to be equals with their teachers. It discusses the experiences of students of colour and the importance of creating an education which is for the purposes for liberation. Freire conceptualises how a history of racism and oppression affect education, in a way which can be liberating for readers who take heed to his philosophy.
